Solar Thermal - Solar Domestic Hot Water

Harnessing the sun's energy to heat water and for space heating is the most efficient and cost effective renewable energy technology available today. In a typical household, water heating accounts for 25-40% of the energy used and produces an average of two tons of green house gas emissions annually. A solar thermal system can decrease this monthly cost by as much as 65%. Solar Domestic Hot Water (SDHW) systems are the most efficient and cost effective technologies to decrease this expense and reduce your environmental footprint. Government incentives make this the least expensive energy available today.

Solar Thermal collectors provide 80-95% efficiency at capturing solar radiation as opposed to Solar PV (electric) only between 10-20% efficient. These systems are also significantly less expensive than other renewable energy alternatives. With significant incentives available for both residential and commercial solar thermal applications, payback on a SDHW system is between 4-7 years and will be under warrantee for 10-15 years and with proper maintenance will likely function at full capacity for well over 20 years.

   Evacuated tube solar collectors:

  • Solar Radiation capture efficiencies of up to 95%
  • Lightweight
  • No energy loss from conduction
  • Ideal for cold climate applications

   Flat glazed plate collectors:

  • Solar Radiation capture efficiencies of up to 85%
  • Durable components can last for up to 30 years
  • Cost effective

Heating for swimming pool water is one of the most effective applications of renewable energy technologies available today.
